FSSAI License Renewal

Renew your FSSAI license before it expires — avoid penalties and business disruption

FSSAI licenses and registrations must be renewed before their expiry date. Operating with an expired FSSAI license is illegal and can result in penalties of ₹1,000 per day. Renewal should be initiated at least 30 days before the expiry date. If already expired, renewal is still possible but attracts additional penalty fees payable to FSSAI. Velco Legal India handles Basic Registration, State License, and Central License renewals across India.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I renew my FSSAI license?
FSSAI recommends renewing at least 30 days before the expiry date. However, you can apply for renewal up to 30 days before expiry. We strongly recommend renewing 60 days in advance to avoid any last-minute issues.
What happens if my FSSAI license has already expired?
If your license has expired, you can still renew it but you will need to pay a late fee/penalty to FSSAI. The penalty is ₹100/day for Basic Registration and higher for State/Central License. Contact us immediately — we can help minimize the penalty.
Can I renew my license for 5 years at once?
Yes! You can renew for 1 to 5 years. We recommend renewing for 5 years to save on renewal costs and reduce compliance burden.
Can I modify my license at the time of renewal?
Yes, you can make modifications (like updating address, adding products, or changing proprietor) at the time of renewal. This saves time and additional application costs.
Will my business need to stop during license renewal?
No. If you apply for renewal before expiry, you can continue operating while the renewal is being processed. The FoSCoS portal allows continued operation during the renewal process.
